Hello again:
Has anyone used Image composer 1.5 which comes with FrontPage 2000? If yes, I have bought a template that has 5 blank buttons. I have added text to them using the image composer (this can be done in Photoshop so if you know the way in Photoshop, please don't hesitate to tell me how). Now, how do I save the buttons so when I insert them in FP, I would be able to right-click on each individual button and hyperlink it to the appropriate page?
I'll appriciate any help...

Well,

Not sure about the properties of your template, but all you have to do is right click the button just like you would an image, select Hyperlink Properties and choose the page.

I make buttons all the time with Image Composer. I like it. Never learned photo shop myself. The problem I experience most is attempting to use a light colored text and turning this into a transparent Gif placed on a darker background. Looks like sh*t.

If you get into the habit of using it, be sure to make a note somewhere about the font you used, so you can find it later.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal Smith

Thanks Michael. I like it too. How do I save the buttons though? I tried save for web but it saved the whole set of buttons. I need to be able to click on each button (ex: Home)to select it and then as you said right-click and choose hyperlink properties and link it to (ex: html.htm).
I'll appreciate your help again.

Hey Morgan,

You should be able to choose the pages from the list. Of course they will have to be placed back on the template.

I generally either do a Save As on the image and place them in My\Docs, but most of the time, I just make them in IC, copy and paste onto the page and let FP name the image, e.g. index.2.gif etc.

I don't know how many users use my system, but I always create a page called briefcase. I set the Workgroup not to publish the page. It is a good way to save images, border content and I am an airhead sometimes, so if I create a nav gif with a particular font, I include this info in my briefcase page.

Sounds like you will be pasting them into your template and saving that way. When you create a new page with the Template, I think they will become working links on save, but you might want to check them anyway.

I almost always use shared borders myself rather than templates. I just stick to the non fancy aspects and leave the rest for real designers.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal Smith

Thank you Michael. I have not got a chance to try your way. I'll let you know if it still doesn't work.

With image composer it's best to click the graphic to select it, the go to file and press Save selection as, I find saving all graphics in another location not directly into the web I'm working on, means I have a backup, so make a folder called My Pics if your OS does not have one automatically. and save there you can name the graphic with an appropraite name for seo purposes (Search engine optimistation) example if it's about a green parrot call it green-parrot.jpg Then go to FrontPage and press insert on the menu then Picture then From File, find your My Pics folder from the drop down menu at the top and locate your graphic select and press open, frontpage will insert it into the page. When you save the page frontpage will bring up a box where you can rename the graphic if you wish, save the page in the locatin of your choice (saving all graphics in your images folder is best) and you can do other things.

To hyperlink a graphic click the graphic to select ... and then right click instead of choosing hyperlink choose picture properties there you can a vareity of other things besides linking the graphic, don't forget to insert an ALT Attribute (tag) which describes the graphic.

For Image composer you might like to know about some resources.
When you make your menu your best using FrontPage Includes as this will give greater control if the site gets large.
see this tutorial on how to use them
