One day last week, the machine just turned off. The battery had been replaced a few months back.

I tried a different/known-good power cord - no luck.

I checked for a stuck/jammed power button - no luck

I reset the PMU and when I put the power cord back into the wall the power button flashed for just a moment, but still will not turn on.

Any ideas to go further would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Donna

Did you try the reset button. We have some earlier model imacs and it was on the side by the ports.

There can also be a PITA thing with a button on the main logoc bard called the CUDA switch. We had some earlier macs that, when the battery died and was replaced, you had to reset the cuda switch or the thing simply would not turn on. I have no idea where (or even if there is one) it would be on the imac. You might check the Apple support site for this. If you download the manual for your machine it might be in that.

Thanks, jmgalvin. Tried the above. Ours seems to have a PMU reset as opposed to the older CUDA. I think we may just salvage the RAM for some other machines and make a nice aquarium.
