Hello All:

When I shutdown my(actually my mother's) Imac 233mHz with OS 8.6 it starts up again. Sometimes it takes many minutes to do this sometimes it starts up right away after shutdown. I have made sure that 'start the computer' is checked off in the energy saver control panel. I did read some thread in the Apple support site that talked about the 2.4 Kernel not working with older Imac's but I don't understand what they were talking about.

Apple support, claims to be able to fix this for the price of their support calls, $50 per minute or something rediculus like that, the opportunisitc b tards.

Thanks,

Bucky

I wonder if there is anyway to get your mother online, I bet she is politer. Kernel 2.4 refers to OSX which your mother's Mac is not running. Besides restart on power failure in energy settings there is also a scheduled restart. She may wish to uncheck that as well.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Sorry for my rudeness, I was just trying to be tongue in cheek. Anyway, I found a few refrences to an old virus called the Autostart virus which did infect Macs and sounds like some of the symptoms that this computer is showing. The next time I visit Mom, I'll try some of the fixes suggested. Does anyone remember this virus?

Bucky

'Autostart Rom' was a worm that infected CDs set to run programs when installed, that may be the one you are reading about
