IMA service failes constantly on XP (NT4) servers

We currently have 6 XPa servers. All have a problem with the IMA service failing. At the moment we are lucky to get 2 hours uptime. We have spoken to our suppliers who say it is a known problem. Is any body else having this problem, and do you want to compare notes?
When the service fails we have found that you can't interrogate the servers using the "CMC" or the "mfadmin" utility. If you check services the IMA service has stopped but is reporting that it is started. If you try to STOP/START it it just hangs. We have also tried to run "dsmaint refreshlhc" at a dos prompt. Some times we're lucky, but rarely. The published application that users logon to also fails when the IMA service drops out.
Occasionally, when we have had to reboot a server the IMA service fails upon boot up with the error "The Independent Management Architecture Service hung on starting" and the only way to get the system back online is to shut down ALL servers and then reboot the Master Brower Machine first then when it is up power all the other servers back up. NOT WHAT YOU CALL IDEAL!!
Does anybody have any suggestions or a similar problem. Thanks in advance.

There are several conditions under which the IMA service fails - could you provide a little more information, such as error codes, event log messages, etc.

The most common cause I've seen is accompanied by service specific error 2147483661. There are also issues with particular versions of MDAC - 2.5 sp1 is the one to use.

There is also a hotfix on Citrix's site for the IMA service failing.

I hope some of this helps

Unfortunately I can't give you any specific error codes as there are none and the event log provides no clues either.

We are using MDAC 2.6 SP1 and are about to install Jet4 SP3. We are currently building a dedicated data store server to see if that helps.

We have searched the citrix site and were advised to install hotfix 15 but that hasn't helped either.

Thanks in advance
