I'm trying to replace the harddrive in my PC. I took the old-drive out and inserted a new one. When attempting to load WIN2000, I get the following area:
File \i386\c_1252.nls could not be loaded. The error code is 7. Setup cannot continue. The old drive was formatted in an attempt to try and clear it out, so I have no way of going back to it. However, I do have a boot disk. Could someone point me in the right direction so I can load Windows2000 Pro. Thanks in advance for any assistance rendered.

Hi,

As it's a new drive make sure it has had FDISK run on it. From a command prompt type FDISK and make a primary partition. Then format the partition from the command prompt after a restart. You will need to use a boot disk to get to the command prompt (WIN98, 2K etc etc). If you boot off the CD it might give you the command prompt option I cant remember. If not then you can download a copy of a boot disk here:
Assuming you have already done the above, are you booting from the CDROM drive or the floppy disk to install windows ?

If you have used the floppy disk, then go into your computers BIOS when it boots up and look for the area that has a Boot Order. Here you should be able to select the CDROM as the first boot device. Then put your WIN2K CD into the drive and restart the computer.

Good luck, hope it makes sense and helps :)

I’m booting from the CD, Windows enters the setup mode and begins the installation process. I then receive the following error:
File ncrc710.sys caused an unexpected error (8192) at line 2320 in F:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\setup.c. I’m assuming that there must have been some files on the HD, the person I purchased it from said it had never been used. Should I create a 98 boot disk to use Fdisk? The hard drive is 30GB. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Aye if you havent anything on the computer it really cant hurt. In fact if the hard drive really hasnt been used before your'll HAVE to run FDISK on it before you can format the computer. I though WIN2k did the partitioning on setup as an option but I may be mistaken.

you dont have to run fdisk, win 2000 should let you make a ntfs partitian and then format during install, when booting off the cd.

will
