I'm trying to connect to my access database and it keeps giving me this message...what causes this?

Error Type:
Microsoft JET Database Engine (0x80004005)
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'c:\inetpub\ It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

thanks in advance

In this case you should close any MSAccess applications before connecting to database.

PS. I mean any applications using your database. Most of them use the database in exclusive mode. If you want to avoit it, you should create users, give password to admin and in atabase permitions remove from users "open/run exclusive", and enter database as some user, not with admin.

I don't think the database is being used by another program...and I didn't set any passwords when I created the database...

It sure is. For example you have created a program which uses it, you should stop it. Maybe some program could look as not running, you should press magic ctrl+alt+del alnt look in TaskManager. If there are none of your programs, you should close any instances of access application. After that see if your application works.

So far it is all about exclusive open database. If your application still does not work, you should ensre what you're using the right System Database. If you don't use a system database, you should select one and use it. The driver DAO also could give this error because of three reasons beside the reason discussed above. First of all try to open with user "admin" and password "" (or try user "" and password ""). After that check following points:
1. If you aren't using the right System Database or you do not use it at all then you should use it.
2. If you are not using the right version of DAO driver.(I think you should you have versions 2.5 and 2.6).
3. If you do not use the correct user/password. You should ensure 1 and 2. After that you can ensure user/password.

thanks, I'll try your suggestion and let you know how it works out.

Sometimes with ODBC it is as simple as checking your ODBC Data Source Administrator and making sure Access is set-up correctly. You may have to remove the set-up and redo to fix your problem.

melakeside, how long are you a programmer? Using such methods of working means you are very unexperienced.
