I'm setting up a connection with SBC/Yahoo! DSL and AOL on a Linksys BEFSR41 v2 Router. The AOL account is seperate of SBC's account. Using the Router, I can't get a connection established. From what I've read is that Enternet needs to be uninstalled? I'm not sure if SBC's Connection Manager needs to go as well? There's a question as to upgrading the Router Firmware to the latest version. The SBC modem is a Speedstream Model 5360-023. The error I'm receiving is "PPPoE Authentication Failure." There are two PC's involved: WINME, and an older machine with WIN98. Any tips on what I should be looking for? Oh, the WINME machine also has a reference to iVasion's PoET Adapter. Does this adapter need to be deleted as well?

Might try cloning your original machines MAC Address from your initial setup?

Some ISP's key in on a specific MAC address of a specific computer.

I use a Cable modem and am not too familiar about DSL. You might have to use commands to dynamically assign a random IP Address depending on how your ISP is handling access. On my Cable Modem I just turn it off and back on and it reinitializes a new connection. I use a separate Powerstrip for my Router and Cable modem so I can just turn them off and back on. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

If your ISP is using PPPoE, then make sure the router has PPPoE enabled. By default, it is NOT.

Make sure your router is configured properly in all other respects. On DSL, chances are you will get all addresses automatically at connection time.

Make sure your LAN Connection parameters are set up properly too, on each machine in the network. Remember that the router is also a DHCP provider and your LAN card should probably be set to get addresses automatically as well.

You receive the "PPPoE Authentication Failed" error when the username and password that you entered isn't correct. Have you tried retyping each? If yes, and still got that error, and your username appears to be 'username@domainname', try it without the '@domainname', and vice-versa.
