Hi, I run Mcafee Total Virus Defence Management Console and Virus Shield on all my NT workstations (120 over 5 sites).

One workstation has refused for some time to install VShield, but I forgot about it after that. Went to update it the other day and it crashed the following - screen froze - windows redraws stuck. I had to reinstall PC. Fine until I try to send down VShield from management server. Once sent the PC hangs even though reformatted! So tried another brand new boxed PC connected to same data port - same thing - strange! I noticed that the data cable was crushed so thought this was the problem so changed it, gave user already set up PC - all fine. Reformatted original PC - fine - send Nsheild down - hangs again - reformated - sent Netshield - hangs again?!!!! What is going on? All I can think of now is that the BIOS is infected. Went into BIOS (Compaq SFF DPENS P3 500) - can open and make alterations but no BIOS scan sweep like Award BIOS has.

Im really stumped now - can anyone help?

Cheers

Have you checked the NIC? ~Apex1x
Sattinger's Law:
It works better if you plug it in.

I was thinking that if you changed the whole PC and the cable, perhaps the problem is the hub. Check the port or change to an open port and see what happens.
