I'm obtuse but...

Can anyone give me the quick nitty gritty on what this jakarta is and why it could be running on my servers?
I have a webguy who occaisionally uploads stuff to my server. I recently have seen this as a service along with a program called webtrends. I'm assuming they are related to web prgramming, tracking and java running?
Or where can I go for a quick tutorial on it?

Jacarta (Tomcat) is the Apache Java server, Webtrends is webserver access log analyser, need to know more ?
