Hi,

i am having trouble getting text to wrap around a picture of a rabbit in Illustrator. I can get the text to wrap around the rectangle guide around the rabbit - but what i want is for it to perfectly follow the shape.

the rabbit picture is a png as i removed the background in photoshop(if there is a better way to make background free things please let me know).

everything in my ai file is on one layer - is that normal in Ill? from the sub layers i did make sure that the pic is higher up than the text. i have tried text in a text box and just plain text.

thank you for your help.

H

...do you have a clipping path in your rabbit picture?

You can wrap text around any object, including type objects, imported images, and objects you draw in Illustrator. If the wrap object is a bitmap image, Illustrator wraps the text around opaque or partially opaque pixels and ignores fully transparent pixels.

Wrapping is determined by the stacking order of objects, which you can view in the Layers palette. In order for Illustrator to wrap text around an object, the wrap object must be directly above it. Illustrator does not wrap text that is above the wrap object in the stacking order or in a separate sublayer or group from the wrap object.

Select the object or objects around which you want the text to wrap. This is called the wrap object.

In the Layers palette, make sure that the wrap object is above the text you want to wrap around it.

Important: If the layer contains multiple type objects, move any that you don’t want to wrap around the wrap object either into another layer or above the wrap object.

Choose Object > Text Wrap > Make Text Wrap.

The Text Wrap Options dialog box appears. If you wish, set the following options. Then click OK.

Offset Specifies the amount of space between the text and the wrap object. You can enter a positive or negative value.
Invert Wrap Wraps the text around the reverse side of the object.

...another way is to have your rabbit on a transparent background, save as a psd, import to illustrator, embed it then perform the text wrap.

...forgot to mention, you may find you need to embed the image if your rabbit has a clipping path for the text wrap to work and illustrator to see the path from photoshop...
