I don't have a post script printer and i need to send a job to a prepress printer. The 'Separation Setup' is grayed out. How can I save this file in the correct format so that my printer can view the separations accordingly.
in your immediate print options there should be a checkbox for 'printing to file' and in your list of printers you should have an 'adobe ps' option. Dont worry too much about the latter as any printer will work only your resulting .ps file will have that printers print description writin into the file. YOur printer should be able to handle it anyway since the important stuff gets sent along with anything done in postscript.
Just print a composite and send the original file to the
Prepress dept, if you fell there could be a problem
Drop off the disk in person and ask if some one
Would have time to open the file and go over it with you
to see if it has Been setup properly
And if you still need separations ask if they could print
A set for yourself
I don't have post script feature in the Print box. My Separation Setup is grayed out. Nothing changes when I will check print to file box. Please help.
You need a postscript printer installed on your comp. If you dont have one, intall the Adobe PS printer. Its a virtual printer that will write postscript files to your drives instead of sending seps to an actual printer. Not sure how to set that up, think you have to install the .pdf reader from adobe.
you need to install a postscript printer and then choose a PPD from within AI's print setup. Usually found in C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\<?> Do a search on *.ppd if you cant find it. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
I am confused. I am also having problems with separation setup. It is grayed out and I can't access the PPD setup. When you say to install Adobe postscript printer to solve the problem, is this additional software that must be purchased or is it something I can access on my computer (Mac 0S). My printer is a Hewlett Packard deskjet 952C. has anyone successfully solved this problem?
Same answer for you Evey as my last post. Except your PPD are located in Macintoch HD/system folder/extensions/printer descriptions/(name of your printer).ppd
If you do not have a printer that supports postscript you will not have a matching .ppd (postscript printer description) file. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
Thanks. I selected the post script printer listed and was able to access the separation set up (even though I don't have the printer). But now I have a new problem - all the black in my illustrator files has disappeared. Even the black swatch appears white. My black and white files appear white in the preview view. They print out white too. Any reason for this? I'm worried I just blew away the brochure I've been working on...
