Illustrator Scaling

Hi,

My Illustrator CS2 is acting up. When I go to scale something I click on the scale tool ion the toolbox and nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I get this message everytime I open Illustrator.

"Alert
FMCore has been stopped. Please start it from the System Preferences pane and then relaunch Adobe illustrator CS2"

sometimes I hit "OK" and the document opens, sometimes it doesn't.
