Illustrator pixellizing images?

Hello,

I have upgraded to the new CS3 Adobe package.

In my previous version, placing images from the web or photographs was no problem, they came out fine.

Also, I was able to copy clipart from Word straight into Illustrator and I could ungroup the clipart and delete/add/edit certain bits if i wanted.

However, with CS3 when i place an image from the web into illustrator it comes out pixellized. Also the clipart comes out pixellized too - and cannot be edited (Perhaps this is to do with the new Word 2007?).

Does anyone have the same problem, or know what i'm talking about?

I really liked that clipart feature of being able to edit it - came in handy a lot when i needed a particular shape of something and could just delete the background or whatever.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

...i don't have word 2007, as on mac i have word 2004 and yes, copy paste works OK with CS3 and 2004, so maybe something to do with 2007...

...a possible work around for now might be to save out of word to pdf and open the pdf of the clipart into CS3, this way works better with word art too...

...with regards to web graphics pixelation on output to your printer are you talking about a desktop printer or a postscript printer?

...if a postscript printer i could understand it pixelating as web graphics are often too low resolution for high end output. As you mention CS2 was fine with web graphics so I would verify your print settings and be careful not to increase the physical size of the image in CS3 too much as this would degrade an already low resolution image...

Andrew,

Thank you for your response. Ill try the clipart pdf idea.

With regards to web graphics, what i mean is copying a picture straight into illustrator used to be fine and come out clear, now with cs3 if i do the same its coming out pixelated. I'm not referring to how it is printed, but how it is on screen. I'm not resizing or anything - just a straight copy and paste.

...are you viewing the artboard at 100% or higher?
This can have an effect on the way your screen renders images if viewing them too close and sometimes too far away...

I think you need to change your Document Raster Effects seting to high resolution and anti aliased.

I don't think thought this will help. It really depends on where you copy the image from the web. Most images on the WEB are 72 dpi, so it would turn out pixelated when viewed on screen in illustrator.
