I'm attempting to copy objects from Illustrator and paste them into InDesign, but the objects distort when printed.

For example, I have essentially combined rectangles to create squares. When printed from Illustrator, they are fine - no spaces between the rectangles and all edges are even. When printed from InDesign, there are a few white spaces between the recatangles and the tops/bottoms are not alligned.

Any ideas?

Addition:

I did read a post in this forum which said to make sure that Illustrator was copying as AICB instead of PDF, and that InDesign does not prefer PDF files, which I did. The error I get when pasting says that it cannot display the object(s) in their native format and so will paste as an embedded EPS file.

I have also tried saving the oject in Illustrator and then placing in in InDesign with the same distorted results.

I am truly baffled...

Have you tried getting the files into InDesign in another way? I don't have InDesign so can't speak to that specifically but typically copy and paste is not always effective as the programs don't always "speak" to each other very well by means of the clipboard. Since InDesign was designed to work with Illy, then I would suspect that there is an Import or Place function that might work better.

You would have to copy and paste the object in question (assuming it is within a larger document) into a NEW ai document and then save that separately and then import.

Agian, this is just "logic" -- not personal experience [wink] .
