Illustrator messes up my images on import

I have an image that is 700px wide and 300px high that I want to add some simple circles and arrows to for teaching purposes. The problem is when I import it into illustrator the image is huge and is larger than the paper outline in the background. When I grab a corner to shrink the image it reduces the text to a point where it's hard to read and that kind of defeats the purpose of using the image for educational purposes. If I don't reduce the image then I can't save it without cropping it as it's larger than the workspace. When the image is viewed in firefox it is a perfect size on my laptop so I don't want to change the image dimensions at all.

Any ideas?

Open up the preferences for AI and select Units & Display performance. Under units, select Pixels for all measurements. Then create a new AI doc that bigger than what you want to import and import the image.

When working across multiple apps, it's usually easiest to keep them all on the same measurment system, whether inches, pixels, points, etc.
