illustrator freezes and unexpectingly quits

illustrator keeps freezing on me...
only on this file...

i'm building a frame by frame animation in illustrator.
it's very copy and paste intensive, over 150 layers...
every time i do 15 or so layers it freezes and quits.
is it memory or something else??
is there some setting i can change??

i'm on a Powerbook G4, 1 GHz, 256 RAM

ok... update...

i fought my way through and finished the whole project...

the file is over 200 layers... but now that its finished i can't reopen it.

everytime i try to open it, illustrator 10 freezes and i have to force it to quit.

help !!!
