I've been using illustrator for a number of years, never had this problem before:

The Blur option in the drop shadow option box is not accesible at all. Because of that i cant change it and whenever i open files in which it was set to a specific value its as if it was set to 0 regardless of what it was before (all objects with shadows set to specific Blur value seam to look as if there was no blure setting at all).

i hope my explanation is at least partialy clear :)

thanks

Woda:

You need to delete your aiprefs file. Losing drop shadows is one of the common symptoms of a corrupted aiprefs file.

Here's how:

1. Close Illustrator (This step is absolutely ESSENTIAL);

2. In the Windows search dialog (Winkey-F), include System and Hidden files, and type in 'aiprefs', no extension, and without the quote marks. You'll find the aiprefs file;

3. Delete the aiprefs file;

4. Start Illustrator.

You should notice that all the palettes (as well as any other customizations) have reverted back to factory defaults. Customize everything the way you like, then close Illustrator, and locate the newly written aiprefs. Save a backup copy somewhere, and next time it corrupts, simply replace the corrupt one with this backup.

The program writes to the aiprefs file every time Illustrator is exited, to update info on palette positions and other custom settings. The corruptions occur when this takes place. Should you delete the file while Illustrator is still running, it will simply write the same corruption right back into the new aiprefs and you have accomplished nothing.
