Illustrator colours and browser colours appear different

Hi,
I'm putting together web pages in illustrator and assigning the background a specific colour. Thing is, this colour (250000) appears completely different in safari/explorer etc. Its nothing like the original illustrator artwork
Any suggestions appreciated

Try using the Web color library and see if that helps.

No matter what you do, you will never be able to guarantee a specific color looking the same on the web. Monitors have different brightness and contrast settings, are viewed in different light conditions, and have different color display capabilities depending on things like gamma and white point settings.

...i agree, a massive area colour management, not for the faint hearted...

...pop down the local tv store, see the same program on different tv sets all looking quite different...

...the printing industry pretty much relies on every client having profiles installed, not bad if you are only ever printing onto one type of paper, a nightmare even in this scenario yet alone printing onto different types of paper...

...applications also handle colour differently too...nightmare!
