Not a clue as to your question, but did you notice that in this entire forum, since April of 2000, there have only been ( 10 ) postings? And a total of ( 6 ) replies?
Do you get the feeling that there's not much interest here?
Flash and Photoshop get all the activity, and marginal, esoteric design tools like Illustrator or Freehand languish without support.
And Adobe, developer of these fine products, drops the ball entirely in supporting its users. That's about the biggest bonehead move any company could perform, and I have trouble reconciling the software excellence with the complete and intentional lack of support. You want help from Adobe, they farm it out literally to the highest bidder. Isn't that great?
Of course, if the manuals and the guides were actually written in a manner that simply following them would insure one could figure things out and find their way, there would be no need for additional support. But the manuals and the guides suck. I just installed Illustrator 9.0 on my platform, and as I was working my way through it, I began to encounter those spots where the manual instructions didn't pan out with the actual software interface: things they said would be present weren't; things they said would happen didn't; and what's worse, what I wanted to happen just absolutely wouldn't. In fact, I crashed my Sony VAIO four times in a row, unheard of for this machine.
But this predicament certainly isn't new: every Adobe product I've ever purchased----and I have ( 5 ), have led me down the same Primrose Lane. I hate that they avoid their responsibility for supporting their product: it's kind of like if car manufacturers had no complimentary distributorships with service facilities....and once you owned the car it was YOUR problem, chucko! It's wrongheaded, and a poor approach to business.
Meanwhile, though, don't expect any help in this forum. No one uses it. I've met with the same disappointment over in the Freehand group. I gave up, scrapped the program. Switched to Illustrator, hit a new brickwall. I am currently seeking a user group that actually gets into Illustrator and will provide some level of support.
Good luck with your own similar endeavors.
Good tip....I'm headed over to check it out. Thank you very much. Hohriver
ps: I found a brand new training video on Illustrator 9.0 there, with some sample 'movies' from the video, and have decided to order it. Thanks again.
