Illustrator 8.0 Help

I am using illustrator 8.0. When I open the program, it automatically opens a new document. When I click new doc it doesnt give me a New Doc Options box either, just opens another doc. I cant make any adjustments. I also cant use the Color Picker. I double click the stroke or fill box and it doesnt open. This is very frustrating, any help would be appriciated.

Im running windows XP and have a legal version.

...try trashing the preferences file first off, i believe it is here on XP:

Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe

Note that in Windows XP, you may need hidden files visible to find the Prefs file. Here's how to do that:

1. Choose Tools> Folder Options and then click the View tab.

2. Select "Show hidden files and folders" in the "Hidden files and folders" section, and then click OK.

...there is also an illy update here:

...if you are still encountering problems, Illy 8 may not be compatible on Windows XP...
