After changing the tape on a 6.3 version of Networker, backup jobs are failing.
Daemon.log
12/17/2004 07:05:28 PM nsrd: Jukebox 'Quantum' failed: Illegal Request, ASC 0x3b ASCQ 0x11
12/17/2004 07:05:47 PM nsrd: media info: loading volume IIE100 into \\.\Tape0
It goes on and on.
System has been restarted a couple of times. It was working fine up until the tapes were changed.
System event log has two errors relating to Removable storage
1 RMS was stopped
2 Unable to register COM class objects

Suggestions Please

I assume you are talking about NW 6.1.3 as 6.3 does not exist.

What did you change exactly - the tapes (media) or the tape drives?

With NW 7 you have the ability to convert the codes as follows:

C:\>ascdcode -o quantum 0x3b 0x11
ASC/ASCQ(0x3B/0x11)
Medium Magazine Not Accessible

C:\>

This could have various reasons:
- the magazine is stuck
- the door is not really closed
- and similar.

Try to reset the jukebox and to re-inventory it (nsrjb -HEv). And keep the RSM service DISABLED!

Thanks 605

This is a Quantum superload sdlt320 drive.
I have reset the jukebox and completed the inventory.
If the magazine was stuck or door was open could it complete the inventory?

Could I have a scsi connection problem.
Quantums suggestion is that we remove the scsi cables connecting the unit to the server and run a health check.

This creates a problem since I not able to get to this unit
I'm tring to repair this remotely.

Well, as there are a lot of possibilities with this problem, it is something i would investigate locally.

Somebody must have changed the drives or the media (still don't know), so there must be somebody locally to help you.
