I was adding 10 more fields to a Paradox 5.0 form that we have on the network, which is part of an application here.

After adding the fields, I received an Illegal Operation when I tried to save. After 4 reboots after trying this, it finally saved successfully. Any ideas?

troyu,

Check the stylesheet. Make sure it's available to the form. Details at There's a series of related articles, including a script that can be adapted to validate the stylesheets of all forms and reports in a directory and any child directories.

If that's not it (though I strongly suspect it is), make sure the form in question doesn't have a filter or range assigned.

Hope this helps...

Hi Footpad,
I went into the form, selected Design | Design Layout, and then selected a style sheet (*.ft file) that was on the same network directory as my form. Unfortunately when doing so, the entire form gets kyboshed.

Also to note, when I 1st go into Design|Design Layout, I get the message "File name is invalid" but I am still able to go in.

Is there anyway to select a style sheet without modifying the entire form?

troyu,

Well, it may be possible to use ObjectPAL to do it, though I don't recall if Paradox 5.0 has the setStyleSheet method or not.

Is this one of your large forms? If so, see if Enable Debug is checked. If so, uncheck it, save the form, and then try to change the stylesheet. Alternatively, see if you can tell where it thinks the current stylesheet is and then try to re-create the drive for that reference. Paradox handles missing directories fine, but doesn't deal with missing or invalid drives well in this case.

Rumor has it that this will (finally) be dealt with in Paradox 10.

Alternatively, you might be able to get someone with a later version to resave the form using a stylesheet located on a local drive. Have you tried to locate a local consultant?

Hope this helps...
