Hi y'all.
I own a site and want to add a Flash intro to the site.
So I downloaded a trial verson of flash to use, and after I instaklled it, and opened it, it immediately came up with an illegal operation message, that the program had dived an integar by zero..??
Anyway, I have tried several versions of Flash Editors, nd they ALL do this, even the official version.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY COMPUTER.
Is there something wrong with it, or could it be something else.
I am usually fairly proficient with computers, but I have absolutely NO idea what the cause of this annoyance could be!
PLEASE HELP!

Overlay windows. There are 3 ways Divide errors happen. Bad code in windows, the program, or a driver. Sounds to me like there is a corrupt part of windows.

Here is how to overlay, drop in your Windows CD while you are in windows and let it reinstall from windows. This will overlay any damaged or altered windows files without loosing any data you have. You won't notice anything different and it has a good chance of fixing the problem since you did try more version than just the trial. For safe measures, make sure you have your Window license code written down before you start this process.

If you still have the problems after that download some memory testing software and make sure everything is fine with the memory. This error is generated when the program try to divide by zero. So it should be strictly software, but I have seen bad memory cause it also.

Hope that helps.

Hi again
I re-installed Windows, and then installed my flash demo again.
and I got the message:

FLASH caused a divide error in module FLASH.EXE at 017f:00416339.

is this because the install program was corrupted when I first installed Windows, or is my computer STILL suffering from something.
ANY suggestions welcome!!
thanx

Hmm.. If I was there I would breeze through it..

017f:00416339 is an address range. From the looks of it when it's loading flash it's hitting the same memory address range and dumping itself.

Here is the problem with the Flash install. You can uninstall it all you want, the trial version uses specialized security software that remains on your computer and guides any other installs. I'm only going to give my tips a 50/50 chance now since I'm not there at your system. Thinking back I ran into that problem also and ended up blowing away my drive and starting from scratch. I did have another problem which made it easier to decide to do that.

I have the feeling you will need to reload from scratch. It's retaining something you aren't going to be able to clear. Good luck, you can try reinstalling flash a few different ways for S&G's.

Post this in the General hardware area and see if anybody picks it up.
