Having tried Opera 6 on one of my PC's I would like to purchase it and use it on my notebook and PC at work. The problem is that when I try to start it I receive an error that it is performing an illegal operation and dies. On one of the PC's at startup I receive an error starting GDI.exe.

Has anyone experienced this? And if so were you ever able to overcome it?

TIA

there is a lot of issues with gdi.exe
try to find some servicepacks/patches from microsoft, or
upgrade to win2000 or xp

See if Opera 6 functions normally when you open Display Properties -- Settings -- Advanced, and decrease Hardware Acceleration to the Basic level. It does for me, but this disables any 3D accelerator you have installed.
