I have a brand new Lenovo laptop with XP Pro on it.
I do web development, so I installed IIS on it.
If I now try to start IIS, I have an hourglass for 2 seconds but IIS does not start. Each time I do this, it leaves an mmc.exe process running, but that is it.
I tried to deinstall IIS using Add/Remove Windows Components (in order to reinstall IIS) but when I click for this process to start, the progress bar never shows up and then (when I left it for 5 minutes) the laptop crashed and shut itself down.
VB.Net comes up but cannot create a web project as it says the web server is not turned on.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
John
P.S. The only other wierd thing with this laptop was when I tried to install Nero CD writing software, it hung up with an error message about lacking security in "ipkernel.exe" (I think) and I had to turn off the computer to get rid of that. Maybe this corrupted something IIS needs?
Does IIS and other apps have to be installed by the System Administrator? I was just logged in as myself.
