I know this is a stupid question , but how do I determine the IIS version I am running. I have checked everyone.

ok.

open your IIS manager,
then click on help.
then click on about IIS.
there is should show you your version.
(it also shows it in the IIS manager)

What version of IIS do I need to run ASP.NET applications?

to answer your question:

IIS 5.1
IIS 6
IIS 5 with the .Net SDK

I would suggest you begin your ASP.NET journey by heading over to
to get the required software. After successfully
installing all this wonderful new software, I recommend you spend some time
at The QuickStart
examples are pretty good but you will often find that you need more
information to perform a particular task. I recommend you check out the
following sites for in-depth tutorials and examples:

Thx for your reply.

I am already experienced in ASP.NET development, just never had to think about what version of IIS it has been running on before.

For some reason, I cannot get it to work on IIS 5.1 on my development machine. Ah well, I will tackle it again in the morning, time to go home now ;-)

get hold of the dot.net cd's and they will install your missing components before installing runtime environment.

Be careful, i had to blow away my system after first installation.

Reinstall everything from scratch and had no problems since.

(MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE .Net SDK)
