I have an IIS 5.0 server currently running my ASP site. We just got a new server in, that will be replacing the old one. As far as I can tell, the server configuration is the same, but for some reason, the ASP pages return a 500 error. The IIS DOES show .htm pages, so I am pretty sure the service is running. Anyone else have this problem?

I have been having this problem for a week now on a new 2000 server also running iis5.0. Check the event-viewer, are you getting application errors for active server pages? followed by a COM+ error? ("script engine threw exception" c0000005 blah blah).

I have been trawling around for days now trying to work it out. IIS is set to run scripts, html pages work fine, as you say, but .asp's do not.

Recently, if running on the server console itself, some asps come up in the browser as source-code, and some come up as formatted (interpreted) html for the parts that are not script, and everything else invisible. Sometimes also there is a runtime error reported and the debugger starts.

Since this server has never run scripts before and the error is happening in part of IActiveScript, which I understand to be some sort of initialization, I think the problem might be there. Is there a dll missing or something? Any help greatly accepted from anyone!!!

I folloed another tek-tips thread IIS-trappable error or something like it on this one. The suggested Hotfixes did nothing for me though.

My feeling is that this is a very simple problem, which someone must have had and solved by now....

I think I found out how to fix it. You need to confirm that your IUSER_<computername> user account is active to run batch files.

In the event viewer, you will see that this deals with Event 36 (or something). Go to Microsofts support site and search for this event. It showed me which settings to place. Thought, I could not get it to work b\y resetting the permissions of the user name, I deleted the username, reset, allowed IIS to recreate the name, and it worked. This took a few hours to figure out, but its working great this morning.

Hope this helps.
