I have some programmers that copied a site over for testing purposes from one server to another. There's a virtual directory that when accessed from a link pops up a windows login. This doesn't work on the new server, just says the page can't be found. I've checked all the settings on both the sites, even checked the secuirty on the folders and I can't really find any difference. asp.net 2.0 framework. Assuming the IIS sites are set correctly, is there someplace I should be looking? the web.config is the only place I haven't checked.

Could it be an app-pool problem? I'm really stumped.

I've never had much success "moving" IIS from one server to another. But, if you are getting a windows logon error you might have to check the windows folder/file permissions where the application lives.

Yeah I did, but no dice. It appeared to be the same on both.

I know there's an "export" utility in IIS where you can theoretically export IIS settings and import them into a new server, but the only time i tried that it trashed my new IIS install.

Every time Ive EVER moved to new hardware its been an ordeal of clicking buttons till everything started working again.

Good luck

I don't think they exported the IIS itself, just copied the websites over. I'm just not sure why one would put up a windows login and the other wouldn't.

Did you verify that your site's authentication setup is the same as the existing website (ie using anonymous, windows logon, etc).
