We have a Win2k Advanced Server box (and a separate SQL server 2k box) running our corporate intranet, but the performance is sometimes dreadful :-(
I routinely monitor the performance of the servers and I'm convinced that it's not a server problem (unless you know different!)
Eg, we currently have 200 concurrent users and the twin processors are barely averaging 10%. There's 512Mb of RAM which should be enough for reasonable IIS performance - but adding more isn't a problem.
Usage is a mix of plain documents (html and Word, etc) ASP (maybe 20%) and CGI (maybe 10%).
Using Perfmon to monitor ASP execution time, waits and queed items doesn't return anything useful (either that or nothing ever waits, is queued or executes in 0 milliseconds!)
We do not use anonymous access. Monitoring the CAL count shows we are currently running at betwen 500 and 600 - is this high? The maximum CAL count is over 1100...
What else should I monitor?
I suspect that the delays are due to the network rather than the server. What sort of things can I do to investigate this? (I'm not a network expert I'm afraid)
All help and suggestions gratefully accepted
