Here's the problem.

I have constructed a intranet site using IIS on my server. All other win2k servers attached to the network can browse the pages using IE. But none of my win 98 clients can browse the pages using IE. I have given the web site a host header name and added this name to DNS. (this is why i can browse the pages with the win2k servers...i guess)

I can ping the host header name from a win2k server machine and it is resolved fine. However I cannot ping the host header name from a win98 client. (i get error "unkown host")

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Kenny

Hey,

If you can ping it, browse it. Look for the page in My Network Places. See if you can find it. If you can, paste the path into IE and you should be able to see it.

Kenny,

If the Win98 clients cannot ping the name it sounds like a name resolution problem. Check the ip configuration on the Win98 (winipcfg) machines and verify that they have the correct address for the dns and wins servers. Let me know if this corrects your problem.

still cannot ping the host header name from win98 clients. I eventually got around the problem by typing the servername/webname in the url.

All users can access my pages now using this method which will suffice.

Thanks
