IIS Installation and Configuration problem on win2003serv

hi,
the default website on IIS is not working when i browse through IIS manager>default website> default.htm. IIS was perfectly installed with no errors. i gave permissions(allowed) to dynamic content like asp pages, ISAPI, CGI etc in the web service extensions. but still it says 'website under construction'. i created a new website with a simple web page and tried browsing that page, for surprise it as different error '404 file or directory not found'.

what could be wrong, are there any settings that i should know?????
