Pl. advise if this is possible without a CD.

You need a Windows 2000 Server CD to install IIS. It is not available for download.

To check the version, it is usually displayed along the left-hand side of the Start menu. Or you can right-click on My Computer, select Manage, then go to System Information and System Summary.

we have 2003 server.. is it advisable to install iis from 2003 CD?

ya i was able to check the version.. but not able to check what edition tbis is like standard, enterprise etc..
(we are trying to get the 2000 server CD from a friend and to Install IIS does it matter which edition it was that we installed??? My question is: any 2000 server CD v5 will work???)

If you have Advanced or Enterprise server then it will be identified as such in the System Information summary page. As far as MS is concerned there is no "standard" edition of Windows 2000 Server. It's either Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

I would not install IIS from a Windows 2003 Server CD onto a Windows 2000 Server. It is doubtful that it would even install, but if it did it would probably not function properly. To my knowledge you should be able to install IIS from any version of Windows 2000 Server CD onto a Windows 2000 Server.
