I receive the error message below when attempting to access the default web page on my server. I expect the default page - to direct me to How can I configure this is IIS. The server was recently migrated from a Project Server 2003/Sharepoint box but IIS was reinstalled on the new server and some configuration was lost.

The site you are trying to view does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded and configured.

Please try this site again later. If you still experience the problem, try contacting the Web site administrator.

If you are the Web site administrator and feel you have received this message in error, please see "Enabling and Disabling Dynamic Content" in IIS Help.

To access IIS Help
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type inetmgr. IIS Manager appears.
From the Help menu, click Help Topics.
Click Internet Information Services.

In IIS locate your webpage from the list and right-click and select properties. Click on the documents tab, and then ensure that default document is checked. From there, you can add a list of files you wish to be loaded when that webpage is accessed. If the first file in the list cannot be found, it will select the next in the list until it finds a file that does exist.

This has already been done. Under Web Sites in IIS Mgr, I have Default Web Site and Sharepoint Central Administration. Both are configured as you noted but still receive the same message.

Issue resolved...I added hostname to hosts file and it worked. Prior to localhost & IP worked by not hostname. Thanks to all!
