Hello,

I ssem to be having a problem connecting to an intranet site from a W2K client PC. After typing in the site address either by DNS name or IP address, it asks me for Authentication for a User ID, Password and Domain name. If I supply my login details etc. it wont let me in.

All is Ok from the XP Pro PC......so why the difference?

Thanks

Hi, if you use a proxy server, ensure that your site is in the "bypass proxy" section of internet explorer.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if this resolve your issue

Jeff

Thanks for reply........but we are not using a proxy server.

Also.....this error only occurs in W2K Clients. All those using XP Pro can access intranet site OK.

Hi, check your security settings for the intranet zone:

Select "automatic connexion only in intranet zone" in the connexion section.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if this resolve your issue

Jeff

Thanks for reply again.

Have double-checked the custom settings for intranet zone, and it was already on "Automatic connection only in the intranet zone"

Tried the ANONYMOUS login.......no page displayed at all.

Tried setting to login with windows account details, but again it prompted for user ID and passwords....this seems strange?

Thanks

Are you using the same windows account on the xp machines as on your w2k?

Hi,

yes......the user in question is using the same login account.

ALso happens to me while logged in as Administrator.

Does the problem exist with all user accounts on the w2k workstation?

Hope this helps. Please let me know if this resolve your issue

Jeff

YEs......it seems to affect anyone who logs onto this W2K PC......even administrators.

Regards
Monty

In that case try to reinstall internet explorer.

You could try a repair first (add/remove program)

Hope this helps. Please let me know if this resolve your issue

What is the error number when you click cancel on authentication prompt?
Did you check the IIS log to see how the error gets reported? Do you have login auditing on? Does the failed login appear in the log?
Did you try using Mozilla Firefox?
What platform is the Intranet server installed on? Win2003 Server? Does it happen to all Win2K clients or just this one?

OK.....

Tried to install Firefox. Asks me for authenication when trying to login to INTRANET.

Uninstalled and reiunstalled IE6.....same again.

Set INTRANET to enable ALL settings e.g. Active X etc,,,,,,,
Still akss for authentication.

Logged onto the Domain Controller. Same thing there. Asks me (logged in as ADMIN etc.) for User ID and password.

This only happens from W2K PC. Only had 3 of these on network. (2 DC's and 1 laptop).

Think I'll load XP onto Laptop!
