Hello,
when I first installed IIS on my machine, that was long before SP2, and I didn't use it between mid-August and now. With the Service Pack, lots of things seem to have changed. i had to uninstall IIS, re-install SP2 then IIS. A new Inetpub folder was created... but nothing is accessible, except postinfo.html. for everything else, even pages that I authored myself (simple html pages, not even php or asp scripted pages), I get a 401.1 error message: you are not authorised to view this page. Quite puzzling!
Has anybody got any idea how I could remedy this problem?
Thanks in advance,

Philippe

one of the most irritable things about SP2 has been the firewall for my copany at least.

My solutions have been to kill it (turn it off!!!)

Unless you have extremely poor security the use of windows built firewall in my views is basically useless.

Also make sure you still have iuser permissions set properly. I could see SP2 hacking the permissions on IIS up horribly

Hello,
thanks onpnt. I have looked at the firewall to double-check that it has been off for a while now. As for permissions, I have to admit that I am quasi-completely ignorant and deal with IIS properties as I think I understand them. Going onto site properties, I clicked the directory security tab, then the edit button. I have anonymous access ticked, the username is IUSER_COMPUTERNAME, there is no password, no other box ticked. Should i do anything else?
BTW, these are 2 messages I get when I read the log from the event viewer
1 The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'IUSR_ORDI-FAMILIAL' due to the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. The data is the error code.
2 DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon .\IWAM_ORDI-FAMILIAL in order to run the server:

???????????????????????????????????????????

Thanks in advance,

Philippe
