I have a server running IIS 5.0, server name ABC, and I have basic web pages setup and working, I can access the web pages by entering the server name in the browser "ABC" and it comes up as or just the server IP address 192.168.1.17, I would like to redirect the "ABC" server name and point it to "XYZ" name and the same web pages would come up. I have tried to enter a host in DNS with the I.P. address and this does not work. How would I do this?????

The main reason is the real server name is long, but not too long, and users do not like it, and the I.P. address confuses them.

If the server is running WINS you can add a static name pointing to the server IP.

For DNS (without AD) add a new DNS zone, say inhouse.local then add a host of to the server IP.

then can be used in the browser address bar.

make sure that the DNS server is listed in the network config of the workstations or it is added to the forwarder list of your networks DNS server.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

What about DNS that is AD intergrated, which I'm running is it the same to setup.
