Ihave NTL broadband connected to a windows xp computer it works fine I have now put another ethernet card in and linked it to a second windows xp computer via a crossover cable. The connection supports file and printer sharing but not the internet I can ping successfully from the primary computer to the second but not the other way ie from secondary to the primary computer Can anybody help

so your connection looks like this:

ISP --- modem --- NicA:pC1:NicB --- NicC:pC2

1. ensure the broadband connection on PC1 is shared
-go to "my network places", select "view network connections"
-rightclick the broadband connection, select properties
-click onto the advanced tab, the checkbox for "share this connection" should be ticked.

2. PC2 should ideally be set to "obtain an IP address automatically" - PC1 will provide DHCP when ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is switched on.

3. the XP firewall will block pings, so ensure the firewall is turned off when doing any ping tests.
