i have made a database and added a table but is there a way of reading data from a txt file to fill the table?

Yes, several options:

- BULK INSERT
- DTS
- bcp

All the information on these is in Books Online. Look up the "Importing and Exporting Data" topic.

In your previous post you said that you are using php perl sql server. This is a Microsoft SQL Server forum, so you may not be able to get the correct answers to your questions.
