Hi,

I've been charged with a task to find out creating .iges files but I can't find much out on the subject. The help system only points to a glossary or an explanation of what the accronym stands..

Can anyone out there shed some light on the subject?!?!

I did a keyword search on this forum and 1 entry came up, with the title IGESIN, IGESOUT, but no one replied to this thread and consequently no answer was given. I tried the commands out in 2004 but I pressume these commands are either obselete now or the command has changed!!

Any help would be great, thanks guys and gals..

Cheers,

Paul @ Bullet-Proof Designz..

Autodesk now makes you pay for these commands. They are an add on to AutoCAD. You can think of IGES as the DXF version of 3D information. IGES is pretty limited though and will only give you basic 3D information.

Hi,

Thanks mate. I'll look into it a bit further and check out the AutoDESK website..

If I remember rightly, R14 (or possibly R12, can't remember which) used to have the IGESOUT and IGESIN commands. Then Autodesk dropped them for 2000 and used to offer a 'Data Exchange CD' for AutoCAD which had IGES and STEP translators on it (which you had to pay about £500 for!).

I don't think they even do this now. I think the translators are bundled with Mechanical Desktop, but not available at all for 'vanilla' AutoCAD.

I translate 3D models with the ACIS SAT file format. Works well with our SolidDesigner - AutoCAD translation.

I've tried working with IGES a few times - in my experience the files are usually HUUUUGE and unreliable, or simply don't work at all!

Cheers,
Gary

Hi,

Thanks mate, that's a great help! I found a site ( with translators on it for about £1000. Also, they said they'd translate the files for me for £100 a pop - which is ridiculous for a few mouse clicks..

But then, thinking about it - we're not paying for it, the customer is!!

Cheers,
