Hello All,

I use the ifor/ls software that comes with AIX, but when I received a new server with AIX 5.1 on it, I can not find the some of the directories it used to have. I have a program that needs that license server but I can not add the licences.

In AIX 4.3.3 in the directory /usr/lib/netls you had these directories:
adk ark bin cat1 conf

In AIX 5.1 in the same directory you have:
adk conf

I can not find the rest of them and I am not sure how to get this updated so I can install my licenses.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hi,
from many years, also in AIX 433, the ifor/ls licensing product (LUM) is under /var/ifor .
The location /usr/lib/netls/ ecc. are maintained for
compatibility with old software or other.

The official is in /var/ifor. Here you can find the
nodeock file (if your license is nodelock type), the tool i4cfg (to configure your box as client,server,and-or more complicated services) and the i4blt to manage licenses if you choose your box is server or also to see license use.

Verify from smitty install_later, if ifor is installed.

bye

Does anyone know how to input the vender license and product license user ifor on AIX 5.1? Before we had to use the ls_admin command but I no longer see that as an option to use. Any ideas how to do it now?

hi,
/var/ifor/i4blt for interactive use or
/var/ifor/i4blt {options} for scripts or command line
bye

When I try to run the i4blt -a -v "Vendor information" -p "Product Information" this is what it responds with:

CLN-84: Invalid password or vendor incorrect.

Any ideas? this license is currently used on our AIX 4.3.3 box and is needed for one of the softwares that is currently loaded on AIX 5.1

hi,
this message, I know, is ambiguos: it can come out when,
as written, password or vendor info are incorrect, but, it
comes also when the license key is not valid for your machine: I explain.

Giving the command "uname -m" (or -a), your IBM-Risc, prints out a string as
00D55F124C00
called "Target ID" in LUM dialect.

This string depends from platform (4C) and from Serial Number of machine: it is unique for each planar (as MAC address for eth cards). You have to comunicate this string
without 4 zeros (2 heading, 2 trail) and the vendor will send you a key that you can use only in that box
(you cannot clone machine to another, becouse another box has different Target ID; you cannot install and run the same product in another box if you have not license-key for it).

Exists various type of license: nodelock, concurrent, ecc.

To insert nodelock type, you don't need i4blt utility, but
you have to insert license key line in the file /var/ifor/nodelock, using an editor.

If your license is concurrent, you must use i4blt.

What type of license have you ? or which documents about ?

In these may be written target ID for which license is released and you could verify that it matches with the targetID of the old box and not with the new.

bye

Received a new license file and got it entered into the system. Thanks for all the help.
