ifconfig hme0 plump/unplum error bad address

have tried all the tricks i have come across the forums but still no success. The machine looses it Ip settings on reboot with the message configuring IPv4 interfaces hme0 bad address and yet its files ie hosts, netmasks, defaultrouter etc are perfectly correct. I have tried sys-unconfig but still on reboot i get the same problem.

please good experts help me out.

make sure that you have a /etc/nodename with the name of your system
