I'm trying to make a cell in an excel document change color within the context of an IF statement...
[=IF(A20="LSS Training", blue background, no background)]

Is something like this possible?

Yes, it's called CONDITIONAL FORMATTING.

Well described in Excel's help.

Hey Mint, Actually it wasn't described well in the help section it took me more time to figure out they were talking about "Format" from the menu bar than from the formula bar.

FYI, the reason many come HERE is for more guidance than just "GO check out HELP" The only guidance you provided me was the technical term I was seeking, "Conditional Formatting"

Please help a little more next time.

Please help a little more next time.
You are joking aren't you?????

You were pointed in the right direction, which is what I would have done for you, and, I suspect, is what most members would have done for you.

Cheers, Glenn.

Did you hear about the literalist show-jumper? He broke his nose jumping against the clock.

Chad,

Sometimes it's more helpful for people to point someone in the right direction (as mintjulep did), rather than try and rattle off exactly what's in the helpfile (and it's certainly less time consuming as the majority of helpful posters are working while dedicating their time to try and help others).

The upside of this is that mintjulep's post did actually help and that's the whole point I suppose...

This is a forum for people who want to learn within a technical arena for professionals.

That includes searching help files and forums for prior posts before posting a question.

So rather than "Please help a little more next time" maybe "a little more effort on your part before posting next time"

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Yeah, I can see how the following, copied directly from Excel's help, could be confusing.

Excel help said:
On the Format menu, click Conditional Formatting.

mintjulep - For what was essentially a two word answer (not belittling it's helpfulness [wink]), you've done pretty well out of this thread [tongue]
