If I use Shared-Borders, How do I change the background color....

If I use Shared-Borders, How do I change the background color independantly for each border. For example, TOP=RED, LEFT=GREY, RIGHT=GREY & BOTTOM=BLACK. Or is this even possible?...because when I tried to do this it always changes the backround color of the whole page , which is what i don't want. The reason why I'm trying this on Shared-Borders is because, I'm desperately trying NOT to use FRAMES. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm totally stumped Thanks in advance.

The shared border is saved on a separate page in another directory. Have you tried changing the color there?

One way to change it is to put a table in the shared border adn change the color in the table. Thats the way I do it. Make the table 1 row and 1 column so it is easy to change. You can check out what I mean at

An easier way to change colors on different segments of your web page would be to use a frames page vs a shared border. A shared border page is a type of page that ideally remains the same in color. If you went with a frames page, then you could change the color of each page. [sig][/sig]

Be careful using frames because not all browsers support them.

On Coloring Borders:
I've read over twenty books at Borders Book Store regarding borders vs. frames. My conclusion is, definatly use the border over the frames. Frames can be very usefull for the right applications but have there drawbacks. For instantance, most brosers (aol, netscape, etc..) I tested (old and new)would always misplace things on the page. Plus, some will not bring the frames up at all. If you are publising to the general public, use the border.
