If expression

Im trying to set up a formula with an IF expression as follows: I need the expression to work if a certain value exists. Im new to Crystal and did not read anything about it in their book. It should look something like this, its just I dont know the syntax.
If VALUE exists

I cant set value equal to anything since it is constantly changing. Any help would be appreciated.

if {field} > 0 (only numbers)
or
if {field} > "" (only Strings)
or
