There are times when i recieve the message "iexplorer has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." What causes this? I am using IE 5.5 and have Windows 2000 Professional. This doesn't happen all of the time, just every now and then.

i think it's where pages arn't allowed to close down or fully open before you change it it picks up errors that and errors on the pages that you are browsing and it just freezes up .. or is closed by windows b4 it freezes totally

i wonder...did you upgrade at all from windows me? there is a version of IE 5.5 out there that is known to have the issue you are describing....i'd download the patch from microsoft or even better, download IE 6.0 sometimes discussion is the only way to learn

Well I have IE 5.5 and it would do this occasionally but it's more frequent. I have Windows 2000 Professional as well. I did download IE 6.0 and that didn't help any. I am getting tired of this happening more frequently. And I tried to open a music program on my computer and i got an error message on that as well.

Howdy.
There are trojan Horse viruses naming themselves after popular Windows applications. Mine was "IExplorer.exe".

It is a mimic of the true Windows Internet Explorer file named "IExplore.exe"

Also, I noticed it was in the wrong folder (a second clue)

Check youur filenames carefully! It might be this nasty bugger.
