IExplorer crash

I Expolorer is not playing ball. Cannot run Windows Update due to Internet explorer not working. It keeps trying to connect to various ip address's but then keeps saying ' page cannot be displayed'

Status bar flashes up loads of ip address's really quickly.

E-mail have come in ok though, through Incredi-mail.

Had problems recently whereby I had to repair Windows XP and it reverted to a pre-service pack state. I have doen what was recommended, but now having problems with I Explorer.

I'd try running some anti-virus and spyware detection software.

Hi, try IEfix:

You may want to download SP2 network installation (if your have broadband):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

This should be enough to make your internet explorer up and running again.

No SP2 for this poster until he runs a thorough anti-malware scan. Consider from his original post: "Status bar flashes up loads of ip address's really quickly."

Yes, I should have specified to do IeFix and SP2 after the recommendation of BillyRayPreachersSon if the problem is still present.

Do the full download and then install. Be really carefull about the odd syntax involved:

And, JFBouchard -- I knew you knew. It is just that a Google showed this as possibly a malware issue upfront, and I do not like to see SP2 used as a fix for problems. It is a horrible fix if there are underlying problems with the base installation of XP.

All sorted.

Re-applied Service Pack 1. Will be applying Service Pack 2 shortly when everything looks ok.

Spybot and Ad-aware have been run and all ok.
