Hi Folks,
I have a longish problem to do with Intuit Quickbooks and IE on Win2K SP2.
Basically installed Quickbooks on a fully working Win2K SP2 with IE6. Quickbooks refuses to recognise I have IE6 and as, according to Intuit, it apparently does a java call to identify the browser as it launches (it needs IE5.5 or above) it won't start. Don't ask me why but this is apparently a known problem on a UK install of Quickbooks plus a UK IE only on some machines but the cure is illusive.
Anyway I backed out to IE5.0 and allowed Quickbooks to install 5.5 itself. Still no joy. Went to SP2 and eventually back to 6 all via MS web site downloads. MS could detect I had each version prior to upgrade etc. Still no joy.
Looking further I noticed that in System Information, Internet Explorer, Summary, I was getting no IE application path or language shown (it's been like this in 5.0, 5.5 etc). Also under File versions iexplore.exe is listed but no version, size, path or date shown. However IE functions perfectly. On a working Win2K, Sp2, IE6 with Quickbooks installed and working, IE is reported fine in System Information. All dlls are the same version numbers as the problem machine. Unfortunately the working machine is my home machine rather than the problem work one. A complete fdisk and re-install of Win2K is just out of the question.
I'm hoping that if I can get IE to show up properly then it may fix the Quickbooks problem. Intuit so far haven't a fix for me, but give the support guy credit he is having a good go.
It must be something trivial as IE works and has always worked but there is, I presume, a missing registration somewhere.
So has anyone any ideas?
Many thanks
Duncan
