Hi I have been having a lot of problems with bits of internet access programs going missing, netscape7 outlook express internet explorer yahoo messenger and ICQ If you have seen my other posts you will know . I manged to get round this lack of Internet access with advice from my local Dixons one of the very helpful assistants suggested I buy a magazine with a CD containing Opera or similar on the cover disc.
REsult for £3.99 I am internet accessible again. Worth bearing in mind
However I still cannot get IE running I downloaded the update. but this did not fix the problem. where can I go to get this bit of the program? Or will I have to get the whole thing. I am only on dial up so these things take ages to download.

I downloaded PC-Cillin to virus check the computer before I did anything else as my NAV had stopped working too. and its a bit old now. 'PC' also checked for trojans before installing as a 30 day trial. It didnt find any virus so I am also puzzled as to what I did that knocked out all these bits of programs.
BUt I would like to be able to run IE if possible.
I am sure one of my trusted friends on this site will be able to help. [noevil]
TIA

AOL cd's contain IE. so, if you can get ahold of one of those it should work. just browse the CD and install IE only. hope it helps. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

Just go into C:\Windows Update Setup Files and run the ie6setup.exe. It will reinstall everything. Should work. Jim

Well I chickened out of adding AOL to my system I have heard too much about it to install it, and i couldnt find how to get IE6 on its own so i am going to search for a site that will let me download it. Unless you can tell me how else I can get it. I am really puzzled as when I searched for the file it came up with 2 entries. ? but when I clicked on them it told me the path was wrong. browsing for them didnt help either!!!!!! files no found
thanks

What operating system? Did you find the directory Windows Update Setup files? C:\Windows\Windows Update Setup Files and double click on ie6setup.exe within that directory.
If this doesn't work have you tried to download IE6 again from Windows Update page and re-install everything? You may have to do that even though it takes forever to download. Have you tried a Repair? If you have another PC with IE 6 on it and a burner, you can put the Windows Update Setup Files directory on a CDR and put it in the bad PC and run ie6setup.exe from the CD. Oh whoops I have posted this problem in a couple of forums and forgot to add my details maybe I will change my signature, to include them. WinME on upgrade. lost original 98 CD.I will look for what you suggest, and if all else fails download ie from windows update. I have a MAC but I dont think I can use the same IE from there.
never mind. I will go to the update site.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions

even if you find ieexplorer.exe to install, it still wouldn't work unless you know how to point it to the program files to execute.

before going any further do as ANFPS26's said and repair IE.

go to add/remove programs and highlight microsoft IE 6.0 and click add/remove. it will then give you the option to repair.

seeing that you have other problems with programs running correctly i would back-up all your stuff and format and restore windows completely. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

I have done the ierepair that is when it said it couldnt find ie6setup.exe?
How can I format and restore if I odnt have myoriginal 98 CD. tho
I only have ME as an upgrade and am quite willing to go back to 98
TIA

you won't. sorry i forgot you said that.

see if you can borrow someone's 98se cd or ME full version. if you brought your pc in to my office we wouldn't even try to fix it. i promise your problems are just begining with your set-up as it is now. and i'm sure you know it. you can go to ebay and purchase 98se for about $30. but legally you may want to buy it from a dealer.
