I've download the IEAK 5.5 kit so I could keep my users out of the Internet options. When I setup my Internet Explorer 5.5 install, I told it to disable Internet options thinking that it would password protect the Internet options. I installed it on one of my PC's and now I can't get into it because it comes up as restricted. I'm just running Win98/95 PC's. Is their a registry setting to change or some other way to enable Internet options so I can make some changes and then disable it again? Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I just posted this for another question. Unless you have hundreds of PC's, it's easier to use the policy editor or manually in the registry.

backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Look for an entry named NoFolderOptions, right-click, choose modify and type in the number 0.

Also check this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

for an entry named NoBrowserOptions. Change that value to 0 also.

I searched for these registry entries and they weren't on the PC I downloaded the IE 5.5 on. When I setup the IEAK I told it to disable Internet options. Any other ideas?

You have to create them if they don't exist.

I made the changes and still no change. I added a string value in the registry. I assume that's the change you wanted me to make. Whenever I try to go to Internet Options in the Control Panel or in IE 5.5 I get the following message: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
Is their another way to keep users out of Internet Options other than IEAK, software or registry setting?

Sorry, no you don't need to create them.

What's listed under these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IEAK

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\IEAK

I did some more research and found the way to turn off Internet Options. Go into c:\windows\system and rename the inetcpl.cpl file to inetcpl.old. This will make the Internet Options icon in the Control Panel disappear and it will give you the message that I gave you earlier when you click on Internet Options in IE 5.5.
