IE8 problems with Win7

I have a new pc that cames installed with Win 7 and IE8. I know they go together, but one of our programs has problems using IE8. How can I uninstall IE8 and install IE7 without creating any other problems? Since there is no previous version of IE installed, e.g., IE7, I am leary of just uninstalling it.

If your edition of Windows 7 allows the running of Virtual PC "XP Mode" that might be an alternative.

Does your program work with other third party browsers, or is it only suitable for earlier versions of IE?

What programs are we talking about anyway?

Thanks for all the input. This pc is Win 7 Home version, so I guess that rules out making older programs work - this alone will not let me download XP Mode even though my pc does have virtual pc capability.

I will just install XP Pro on it and go from there.

Before you give up on Virtual machines, there are others out there beside Microsoft's, VMware for example. Same goes with Microsoft's own VM's and Home editions, a bit of Googling might pleasantly surprise you. Site ethics prevent me from going any further.
